Learning Gems

At CCH, we are all successful learners. We recognise success in ourselves and each other by focussing on our six learning gems.

Each term, we focus on a different gem power in order to help us grow and develop as successful learners; we know that effort, attitude and self-belief are the foundation of all learning. Our learning gems allow us to demonstrate our learning behaviours, attitudes and habits enabling us to grow and flourish as learners who continually strive to be even better!

At CCH, our learning gems are:

Ruby Power– this is achieved by being positive about ourselves and others. When we use ruby power, we recognise our achievements and reflect on our next goal as we continually aim high. Smiling, using our right response, being keen to learn each day and showing kindness to others helps us to gain lots of this power!

Diamond Power– this is gained by taking responsibility for solving our own problems. From our first day in school, our teachers encourage us to solve problems independently, taking ownership over our learning and identifying resources to help us. Every time we solve our own problem, we make our brains grow and our learning behaviours begin to sparkle!

Sapphire Power– we can gain lots of this power by staying focussed on our learning task and ignoring the ‘monster’ distractions. This gem encourages us to push ourselves to concentrate and make the most of every learning opportunity.

Emerald Power– this learning gem is key for being a better learner. To sparkle with emerald power, we need to be willing to take risks with our learning, safe in the knowledge that learning new things is not easy and that mistakes will happen. We need to be resilient to setbacks and brave enough to pick ourselves up and try again. When we sparkle with green, we readily accept challenges and strive to push ourselves even further!

Amethyst Power– we achieve this gem by using the skills of collaboration and group learning. Playing an active part within a team and showing respect for the views of others are key factors. Sharing our ideas, negotiating and working together to find the best solution helps us to shine brightly.

Topaz Power– this gem is all about creative thinking. Using Oracy to ask higher order questions about our learning helps us to extend and deepen our understanding. When we dazzle with topaz power, we are thinking about challenges in different and creative ways to enrich the learning of both ourselves and others.
