Collective Worship

Collective Worship is a central part of school life at Christ Church.

In line with the school’s vision of Nurture with love- Grow through knowledge and wisdom- Flourish in hope, Collective Worship is central to school life allowing all members of our community to encounter, question and reflect upon the school’s Christian values. Collective Worship provides a key opportunity for pupils and staff to reflect on what makes them a unique human being and to develop their own spiritual understanding and sense of self, their community, the world and beyond. Through a rich and varied experience of Collective Worship, we aim to build hope and aspiration in our pupils.

Our daily programme provides our children with an opportunity to pause and reflect as they deepen their understanding of our school’s six core values. Worship is delivered thorough class, key stage and whole school gatherings; this enables us to ensure that our whole school message is appropriately shared and, effectively understood, by all of our pupils. Worship is a time where we use stories, topical news, art, song and prayer to look into our world and consider the part we can play in helping others and, contributing to our local, national and global community.

As a Church of England school, worship also provides a unique opportunity for our children to learn from, and about, the Anglican traditions of the Christian faith. Through our close links with Christ Church and Reverend Steve, children benefit from learning about the seasons of the church year and the key festivals and traditions of Christianity. A particular highlight for our children is our fortnightly worship led by Reverend Steve and Eley.

Our Collective Worship programme is also supplemented by assemblies throughout the year which focus on key events (eg charity days or national events such as Anti-Bullying Week). Once each term, we also hold our ‘Champions of Christ Church’ assembly. This provides our children with the opportunity to share their achievements and successes from outside of school. This not only allows us to celebrate the unique individuals who make up our school but also provides us with a source of inspiration to try something new- a key part of our school motto: ‘Reaching high, dreaming big, filled with the fullness of God’s love.’
